James Finley Ransone III is an American actor widely recognized for his dynamic performances in television and film. He gained widespread attention in 2003 for playing Ziggy Sobotka in The Wire.
He co-starred in the 2002 drama film Ken Park, directed by Larry Clark, portraying the character Tate. In 2006, he appeared in Spike Lee’s heist film Inside Man as bank robber Steve-O. In 2008, he starred as Corporal Josh Ray Person in the HBO miniseries Generation Kill, further establishing his reputation as a strong character actor.
Ransone later held recurring roles in HBO’s How to Make It in America and Treme. In 2013, he starred in AMC’s Low Winter Sun.
He appeared in the 2012 horror film Sinister as Deputy So-and-So and reprised the role as the lead character in Sinister 2. In 2015, he earned praise for his supporting performance as Chester in Tangerine.
